The Millstream never felt so good…

August 18th, 2009 by Innkeeper

If there was a time to dip in and swim—the last couple of days were it!  I went swimming with the puppies—and a few others!  Thank goodness for the cool millstream!  We had a cookout on Sunday–it was glorious, my dear friends Wendy and Tracy and their new babies all came over to bbq and swim.  It was our first barbeque of the season.

Tomorrow Livy and I will be off to the Farmer’s Market again for good music and local produce (after she works of course!)  Dorraine Scofield will be playing–check her out at www.dorraine.com

This weekend not to be missed…at the Bearsville Theater hear amazing music and support two amazing charities on either Friday, Sat. or Sunday 8/21, 22, & 23.  Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette & Larry Grenadier will serenade you with three concerts–proceeds going to Family of Woodstock (www.familyofwoodstock.org ) and Queen’s Galley (www.queensgalley.org) of Kingston.  Robbie Dupree’s concert on the 19th is already sold out!

This friday at New World Home Cooking — www.ricorlando.com you can not only eat GREAT food–but catch SPIV UK and hear some great music.  Check them out at www.myspace.com/spivuk

Here’s an enticing invite—call today (wednesday, 8.19) rent the cottage for one night and get the second night at 1/2 off!  Good this week only for Wednesday and Thursday!

Alchemy open mic…

August 12th, 2009 by Innkeeper

Wow!  We just got back from Alchemy of Woodstock’s Wednesday night open mic (www.myspace.com/alchemyofwoodstock and we were blown away by a bunch of musicians—Swati (www.myspace.com/swatilive) did one song–and everyone wanted to hear a lot more!  Don’t fear–she will be playing this Friday 8/14 (happy birthday Andrew!) at Alchemy–it’s simple–DON”T MISS HER!  Iwas also blown away by John Holt–ok, so I am biased–but I wasn’t the only one!  He did a new tune written yesterday on the mandolin (thanks Margie!) I can only hope I get to sing back up on it.  I also love Paul McMahon (www.paulmcmahon.tv) check out his website for more info and upcoming dates.

Listening to the river…

August 5th, 2009 by Innkeeper

And that it is these days….all the rain and we have a river instead of the stream.  It is finally suitable to swim in–it was actually too rough!  And boy was everyone taking advantage of it today on this beautiful day.  I am having a sister’s “midweek” get together with my two sisters–Jeanne & Laurie…we haven’t done it in about 5 years–we use to get together once a year to catch up.  This year–in honor of Jeanne’s 49th—we finally did it; and while Jean and I are off to see Dave Matthews (her favorite) Laurie and her adorable Olivia will hang in Woodstock and take in the Woodstock Farm Festival…Check it out on Wednesday’s before it is too late!  Tomorrow I hear it is all about the tomato!  www.woodstockfarmfestival.com

So much great music happening over the next couple of weeks here in Woodstock (and down in Bethel) it’s a bit much to list–but you can bet great music will be heard in honor of the 40th anniversary of Woodstock so check out the following venues to see who, what, where, and what time????  www.myspace.com/alchemyofwoodstock , www.bearsvilletheater.com, www.ricorlando.com, www.colonycafe.com, www.bethelwoodscenter.org, www.levonhelm.com .

Also in honor of the upcoming anniversary there is an amazing exhibit of photos at Woodstock’s own Center for Photography  entitled Woodstock Generation photos by Dennis Stock.  Check out www.cpw.org for more info.  Show opens on Sat. 8/8.

Start getting ready for the Woodstock Film Festival(October 1,2 &3) –in its’ 10th year–It has evolved into one of the finest in the country!  Check their website often–for once tickets go on sale–they sell quick…..  www.woodstockfilmfestival.com

I am tired…off to sleep with the sound of the stream in my ears…aren’t you jealous?

Oh glorious day…

August 1st, 2009 by Innkeeper

Yeah!   The sun is shining for a friend’s 40th birthday party today in Woodstock!  This past week brought a couple of days of such intense rain.  The “stream” was a rushing river!  Willy couldn’t go swimming and he was NOT happy.  Today–nothing but blue skies and sunshine…we deserve it!

 peace,

karen
