Five best things to in the springtime in Woodstock

It starts with the realization that you’re walking, and not looking around for ice patches. Then, one day, the gloves are left at home. Soon, the bulky jacket is traded in for that comfortable oversized sweatshirt and voila – before you know it, spring is here!Green grassy lawn surrounded by green and white flowering trees with mountain in the background
Yes, the calendar makes it official on March 20, but for many of us Spring’s arrival is actually that first glorious day when, looking skyward, the sun warms your face and the shrubs are dotted with colorful blooms and the bright green of new grass brightens the landscape.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson shared the insight that “In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love,” – and we’d like to add that women also fancy the season’s thoughts of love – but there are also many other things to enjoy about this special season.
Springtime in Woodstock is always transformative and here are five things that you can enjoy in upstate New York to celebrate the season.

  • Take a stroll or a bike ride along the Ashokan Reservoir Trail. This 11-mile wide open expanse offers breathtaking views all year long. But as the trees bloom the color is spectacular. This  interesting trail consists of both paved and packed dirt and runs alongside the major source of drinking water for New York City. Be sure and take time to read the history plaques along the way. It is fascinating to know what was involved to construct the reservoir.
  • Whether you want to attend a special event, a weekly meditation group or benches with red tops with a big golden budda alter in the backgroundare just interested in the building, a visit to Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, also known as KTD Monastery never disappoints. Located at the top of Meads Mountain Road, you know you’ve arrived when you find the hundreds of prayer flags dotting the landscape. This welcoming setting has an impressive Main Shrine that is open from 6 am – 9 pm daily and the on-site book store is open from 9 am – 5 pm daily.
  • The Woodstock Playhouse is known for its amazing Summer stock productions. But this year there are so many special springtime events, ranging from a celebration of International Women’s Day, hosted by WMN Unite to a live performance with comedian Colin Quinn as a fundraiser for the Woodstock Land Conservancy. These one-time shows are truly special and memorable. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy these theatrical opportunities.
  • Live music is always a Woodstock attraction. Hear established performers and musicians a white building in moraccan style with teh words colony cafe painted on it. new to the industry almost any night of the week at the Colony Café.This friendly, fun venue also features delicious dining options if you want to really make a night of it. Otherwise, just come for the music – and be sure to bring your dancing shoes. Located in the heart of the village, this is walking distance from the Inn (Ask us for a complimentary flashlight before you leave – the country roads do get dark!)
  • We may be a bit biased here, but a few hours enjoying the Woodstock Inn on the Millstream is the perfect way to soak up Spring’s beauty. The restorative power of nature is seen in the colorful gardens, where early-blooming flowers dot the paths. Down beside the stream the sun glistens through budding trees, the water is a refreshing cascade of winter runoff and the quiet – ahhh, it’s perfect. But don’t take our word for it. Come see for yourself. Give us a call or text at 845-663-8152 for a personalized room recommendation, or you can always book online. We look forward to sharing this magical season with you.
